When we say Il Gelsomoro is set in the Le Marche countryside, what we mean, more precisely, is this: it sits within a small rural borgo called Casal Cristiana, in the hills above Torre di Palme, a few minutes' walk from the medieval village and a few minutes more from the sea.

The borgo is the work of Pietro and Cristina — a project that began quietly and grew into something genuinely rare: a cluster of stone houses and gardens that feels lived-in, tended, personal. Not a hotel that calls itself a borgo. An actual place.

Pietro is an experienced architect who specializes in the renovation of old structures. But he is also more than that: a visionary who gives neglected places the gift of rebirth. With sensitivity, knowledge and a very refreshing portion of pragmatism. The kind of person who sees what a place could become — and has the patience and craft to get it there.

Cristina's hand shows in many details — and it is her eye and her will that shape the genius loci of the Casal Cristiana. Genius loci: the spirit of a place. A concept from Latin antiquity that Cristina, a scholar and professor of Latin, would know better than most. She doesn't just run it — she shapes every inch of it.

Together, they've turned a forgotten cluster of stones into somewhere that feels like it was always meant to be this way.

Named after trees

Every house in the borgo has a name drawn from the trees and plants that grow on the property: Il Ciliegio (the cherry tree), Il Melo (the apple), Il Melograno (the pomegranate), Il Pesco (the peach), L'Ulivo (the olive), Il Casale della Quercia (the oak farmhouse).

And ours: Il Gelsomoro — the white mulberry.

It's a detail that tells you something about how Pietro and Cristina think about this place. The naming isn't decorative. Each house sits in its landscape, among those very trees, and the name is a small orientation — a way of saying you are here, in this specific garden, under this specific sky.

What the borgo offers

The shared pool is the social heart of Casal Cristiana in summer — a proper outdoor pool with a solarium terrace and views that stretch toward the sea on clear days. It's the kind of place where afternoons disappear.

Beyond the pool: a children's playground, strong Wi-Fi throughout the property, and a genuine welcome for pets. Pietro and Cristina run the borgo as hosts who are present without being intrusive — the kind of people you ask for a restaurant recommendation and who actually know the chef.

For guests who want something closer to a traditional bed and breakfast experience, the borgo also offers B&B rooms — a good option if you're passing through rather than settling in for a week.

The location

Casal Cristiana is situated in Contrada Valle, just outside Torre di Palme — one of I Borghi più Belli d'Italia (Italy's most beautiful villages). Or more precisely: just above it. From the houses, the village unfolds below you against the wide blue of the Adriatic. No noise, no interruption. Just that view.

The geography here is the essential thing: within a few kilometres you have a medieval hilltop village, the Adriatic coastline, and the rolling inland countryside of Fermo province. You can swim in the morning and walk the walls of a Roman-era town in the afternoon.

This is the particular gift of this corner of Le Marche: nothing is far, nothing is obvious, and almost nothing is crowded.
